Medawar Fine Jewelers Donates to the Community!

Robert Medawar donates a MotoGP-themed Tissot Watch to Auction for CharityRobert Medawar of Medawar Fine Jewelers in Palos Verdes donated a beautiful MotoGP-themed Tissot Watch to be auctioned off at the Palos Verdes Concours d’Elegance.  Pictured here are Robert Medawar, holding the watch in its MotoGP Replica Helmet Case and the lucky new owner.

As if by divine intervention, shortly after the watch won big money in the auction, the Concours Ralley organizers announced Robert and co-driver Sheila as this year’s winners!

Robert Medawar came to WSmad looking for a site to match his beautiful new store.  We’ve come to a design that he’s pleased with; we’ll be building out an implementing over the next month or two.

Because you’re here, we’ll give you a little tiny sneak peak.  Hint:  It’s gonna be good.  Check out the new theme, just a splash page at the moment – www.MedawarFineJewelers.com.

The Wally Parks NHRA Motorsport Museum Redesigned to Capture its Heritage

The Wally Parks NHRA Motorsport Museum\'s new lookYou heard it here first! It’s official. Check out this great WSmad-designed Site!

NHRA approached Web Site Maintenance and Design, LLC back in April about getting a new look for its dated Web Site.  It was a long process, but we’ve made them happy!  And everyone is excited about the new site – it will not only be beautiful, but more useful for its users (fans of the NHRA and Drag Racing around the world), but also the new design really encompasses the look and feel of the museum far better.

Any fan of Motorsports in Southern California cannot deny how linked the NHRA has been in motor racing’s growth here.  The museum, in the heart of Drag Racing’s heritage in Pomona, is often missed or unknown, but it is a fantastic collection of drag and land speed record cars dating from the turn of the century.  It really is a walk through California’s history on the race track!

We encourage you to check it out!  And keep an eye out for the new site!

Waterman Supply Gets a New Look on the Web!

Waterman Supply Co, Inc unveils a new site aimed at helping its customersWaterman Supply Co, Inc, has just re-launched its Web Site, www.WatermanSupply.com with the intent of assisting customers to understand the breadth of the products it sells.  Waterman is a an outstanding company that has been around since the end of WWII, and it does what few other companies can.  It boasts selling Marine hardware from 6,000 ton anchors down to chain links – and it’s one of only a couple of businesses in the world doing so.

WSmad had the pleasure of working with Max Mougan on the redesign.  We tried very hard to reflect the earthy nature of this fine company in the new design, while making it simple to use for customers of every computer skill level.  We’re proud of our work, and best of all, Max loves it!

We will continue our work with Waterman over the next year or so to reveal new sections of the site to further make it a catalogue of parts available.  Of course, there’s no way we could get EVERYTHING Waterman deals in on the Web Site – we’re talking MILLIONS of various parts!  But we’ll try to get about 90% of them…

Florida Triangle reviewed in the Wessex Muse

The Florida Triangle Web SiteOur good friend and client Graham Willcox wrote the action-packed “Florida Triangle”, and … well, I don’t have to brag about it, the Wessex Muse did!

Reproduced with permission:

“An action packed story of sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll. The first two hit you right between the eyes and then it rocks and rolls with a fast pace throughout the rest of the book. Fresh, inimitable imagination by the author is at the heart of this gripping and somewhat gloriously gruesome tale of deceit, betrayal and greed.

“It begins with an innocent man being drawn unwittingly into the world of drugs, not realising that his wife is already implicated, when they decide to go and live in America to open their own art gallery to help them get over the untimely death of their sone.

“Guns and violence are not normally my cup of tea per se, but the author Graham Willcox has successfully managed to draw the reader into this macabre and chilling thriller.  I thoroughly enjoyed the coming together of all the different characters involved in the conspiracy and intrigue of the novel.

“The combination of a rum brewery with dubious cost cuts, a newly built atomic power station, and local dignitaries with shady pasts, makes a cracking read.  Not to mention of course, the very graphic descriptions of the habits of indigenous wildlife that are necessary to the very clever and cunning plot.

“Bournemouth based Graham Willcox also resides in Florida.  Florida Triangle is available from all good bookshops or www.ahstockwell.co.uk.” – The Wessex Muse Magazine, www.musera.co.uk.

It IS great! And the cover painter, Alison is justified in her belief that it would make a great film. It’s a quick read and it keeps your attention – you should check out out!

WSmad is really proud of the site we put together to help promote this book – we want it to be the success it should be!

Go get your own copy today, and be among the first to read what is destined to be an excellent seller or a blockbuster!

Medawar Fine Jewelers Opens Beautiful New Store!

Robert and Sheila Medawar open their new store in Palos VerdesRobert, Sheila and Roy Medawar have made the cover of Peninsula People the same month of their Grand Re-Opening. Now, don’t get me wrong, their old store was nice. But this new store is phenomenally beautiful! It completely encompasses the down-to-Earth nature of the Medawars, while effectively reflecting their unflappable elegance, grace, and panache.

Peninsula People keeps up with Who’s Who of the Palos Verdes Peninsula.  It’s totally fitting that the Medawars should get the cover.  Their Grand Opening Gala was a huge success, including some wonderful, patriotic singing, delightful food and a fitting celebration for the new store.  It’s only a few hundred yards from the old one – at 810C Silver Spur Road.  You won’t miss it!

We’re excited and humbled that Medawar has chosen WSmad to design and build their new site, MedawarFineJewelers.com.  We’ll keep you updated as to the progress!

Good luck and congratulations to Robert, Sheila, Roy, Rachelle, and the whole Medawar staff!

A Personal Note: Bernard Cahier, 1927-2008

Bernard Cahier, 1927-2008The Cahiers are not clients of WSmad, this is simply a personal note. As some of you know, in a former life I was a motorsport photographer. I did a lot of work for Vintage Motorsport and I apprenticed with one of the truly greats, Rainer Schlegelmilch in 2001. It was a great experience.

I also got to meet Paul-Henri Cahier, another of the truly greats, and at some point at Goodwood, I saw his father, Bernard. He was simply a great man.

One of my most coveted Christmas presents last year was “F-Stops, Pit Stops, Laughter & Tears”. What a phenomenal story – what a phenomenal life! As I was writing Paul-Henri to express my condolences, it occurred to me that I was sad. It’s silly, in a way – the man was able to live a full, fantastic life, and even more, he was able to share many of the best parts with us – what a great thing to be able to do! With his charm, wit, and superior photographic skill, he chronicled his great life as he saw fit… and it IS GREATLY appreciated. So why should I be sad? So strange how we humans handle death.

Now, look. I’m not trying to sell books for anyone (except Carroll Smith, a client and another man who was truly great), BUT, I do want you to have the opportunity to enjoy this book as I did. If you’re a motorsport geek like myself, you’ll love it, but even if you’re not, you’ll appreciate the great story telling and certainly the phenomenal photography (it’s great on its own – and then you realize the equipment he was using to capture these moments and it’s further astounding!). So if you want, a couple of my friends have the book available, Paul Zimmerman and Dave Lipsky. Both good guys, both great shops.

I encourage you to read this book. Maybe then you’ll understand the sadness that struck me for a moment. Selfishness that translated to morose when I realized that I won’t be able to get any more from the Man. Which is ridiculous considering all he’s already given.

Thank you, Bernard Cahier. I reflect humbly in the omnipresence of your enduring spirit.

Dave Lipsky’s book shop
Paul-Henri Cahier’s Online Photo Gallery (where there will most certainly be a more fitting obit)

Sneak Peak at the Living Christmas Company

The site hasn\'t fully launched yet, but you can be among the first to see it...WSmad is very proud of the clients it chooses to work with – they are all excellent companies. The Living Christmas Company is a perfect example – this is a great group of people doing really great things with a fantastic idea, and we’re over the moon to be working on this project with them.

Did it ever occur to you that every time you take a Christmas or Holiday tree home in December, you’re killing a tree?  Me neither.  This feisty little bunch of do-gooders is going to change all that…

One of the reasons I’m telling you now is that if you don’t get on the ball soon, you’ll definitely miss out!  The company is starting small on purpose this year, so get in line early!

Check out The Living Christmas Company.  =)
