Choose victory by gracious endurance.

Lailah Gifty Akita

Gracious endurance – that’s BEAUTIFUL. What a statement. That’s what I like to believe we do. When I read those words, I think, “yeah, we do that.” We outlast and out-effort our competition. Words to aspire to. Thank you Ms. Akita.

We know some other people like that. We try to surround ourselves with them. One example that immediately comes to mind: Sheri Messerlian.

Half of finishing the race is just finishing. Ask any 24-hour race entrant, and they’ll tell you you can finish in the top half if you can just finish. Such is the attrition of 24-hour racing, whether it be on tire or on foot. You have to push yourself or your vehicle to compete, but it can be a great accomplishment to simply push yourself just enough to still be there at the end.

And that’s what Sheri Messerlian does. She got into the commercial real estate game a long time ago. There are a lot of people biting at her heels. But rather than rush, she focuses on what’s needed to close deals. And she’s on top of her craft.

Endurance: An Interfanatic Quality

10% more. Ten percent more patience. Ten percent more effort. Just ten percent more asks. When you’re already trying hard, sometimes that’s all it takes. Just ask one more time. Just push gently one more time. Last just a little bit longer.

And then it all comes good. Sometimes. Not always, but enough. When hope pushes you a little bit further, it’s often enough to out-compete.

Sometimes the winner is the best. Always, the winner is the person in the right place at the right time. With so much competition in our world, it certainly doesn’t hurt to be the best, or close to it. But often the best just means sticking it out a little bit more.

But do know when to quit.

Sheri Messerlian, Commercial Real Estate: Endurance in the Commercial Property Market

Sheri Messerlian doesn’t know when to quit. She has no reason to. She is the expert in South Bay / Torrance for commercial real estate. Need your business to have great frontage? Sheri knows the building for you. She’ll get you in and up and running on-budget every time.

She didn’t get there by accident. She’s been at this for a while, so she knows the competitive landscape and all the players.

“Messerlian is a connector: she is able to put the right business in the right commercial property.”

Sheri Messerlian has made a business of bringing and representing the best Los Angeles South Bay commercial properties to market. She’s a connector: she is able to put the right business in the right commercial property. You know what they say about business – it’s all about three things: location, location, and location. That right there is Messerlian’s specialty.

A little bit ago, we helped Sheri update her website. We helped her list some new, important commercial properties in Torrance, CA, and remove a few she had already helped to lease. Whether it’s a big website management issue or a small one, we’re here to help.

If you’re looking for a great property in Los Angeles’ South Bay, call Sheri Messerlian.

Interfanatic Service Focus: Interfanatic Power Hacksecure Business Website Hosting

One place you definitely need endurance in your digital business is in your hosting. Our management services include our Hacksecure business hosting that keeps your website up, up-to-date, and running smoothly. This often includes a number of things that you don’t even know about that we do as we constantly improve our systems and processes to keep your website safe and secure.

It used to be you could upload some files, upload some pictures – a friend reminded me of animated gifs – and voila, you have yourself a website. Through the years, it’s continually gotten more complicated. We don’t just write HTML files in notepad anymore! Now running a website involves orchestrating a symphony of software to ensure smooth operation. The better the hackers get, the more sophisticated we have to be in our defense of your business website.

Give us a call and have us manage your website for you. It’s what we do. We do us so you can do you. You, professional, focus on what you’re good at, and have us, other professionals on your team, handle what we’re good at.

Interfanatic: Enduring to Assist You With Your Goals

Over 20 years ago, I started coding my first HTML files for the new Microsoft thing called Internet Explorer, and this new iteration of Netscape Navigator. And then we learned about Google, which was kinda like Yahoo!, but without all the rigamarole. And immediately we wanted to figure out how to get websites listed there. The more some things change, the more they stay the same.

One thing that has stayed the same: we have endured to put our experience to work for your success. Just like Sheri Messerlian does for her clients.

A beautiful Pacific sunset: it signifies you have made it through another day. Now, if you have a margarita in your hand, you’re really doing well! (Kidding.) (Sort of.) The ocean endures. Our planet endures. We endure, but our definition of endurance is small compared to the vastness outside our tiny lives.

What will you do with your gift of tomorrow?

Endurance: Ron Guth / German Coins – Interfanatic Customer Spotlight

The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress.

Frederick Douglass

Endurance: how much will we endure? How much must we endure when we are divided? It’s much easier to endure collectively, when everyone feels the same way.

Douglass, serving in congress just a couple of generations removed from the revolutionary war, had a different take on enduring tyrants. He was born when many revolutionaries were still influential. Jefferson and Adams died when he was 9 years old.

Jefferson had abolished the international slave trade, but slave trade within the United States was still somehow a thing in the 1830s as Douglass came up in these United States. So he knew all about tyrants and oppression and enduring bad situations.

Now, I’m going to shift to a better kind of endurance. I’m talking about the kind that Ron Guth embodies. As a successful professional numismatist at the top of his game for many years, he has endured as an author, a researcher, and a leader in the field.

Endruance in business is not easy, but he has managed it.

Endurance: An Interfanatic Quality

There are not many businesses in our realm that have lasted 20 years. Some of the difficulty enduring has to do with people, some of it has to do with competition, but most of it has to do with the same stuff that makes all business difficult.

We push through, to find a way when things are difficult.

Many projects are not as simple as they seem. They start out simple, but scope creep and technical complexities often interfere. Then, when you add in inconsistent labor, you can have a real problem on your hands.

It’s so much easier to trust us – we’ll take care of the difficult parts. Even if it takes time, we’ll make it work.

Another guy who makes it work: Ron Guth. He’s been in his business for decades. Guth has seen the highs, he been through the lows. He’s written plenty of books about it, too.

But through it all, he obviously endures. And what’s really special about Guth is that he endures in such a way that everyone likes him. That’s definitely not always the case in numismatics.

GermanCoins – Enduring at the Top of Google SERPS

GermanCoins.com – it’s a bit risky of me to bring it up. It’s tough for some people. German history goes back at least a thousand years, but a decade or two in the mid-20th century still dominates many peoples’ minds. Yes, there are nazi coins on GermanCoins.com. That’s because they’re part of the numismatic history of the country – a numismatic history that is mostly beautiful, complicated, and way longer than two decades. Of course, this single chapter makes many people uncomfortable. As it should.

So, if it makes you uncomfortable, look at everything else. Don’t focus on it. There are incredible, exquisite, beautiful coins from Germany that have nothing to do with it. And yes, there is a market for Nazi coins, so ignoring that history, while perhaps more comfortable, is in a way irresponsible. We can’t forget that history, though we don’t exactly want to celebrate it. We just have to remember, and try to prevent it from happening again.

Hint: it’s not working.

But perhaps the greatest task ahead of us back when we took over GermanCoins.com is that because of its endurance, its longevity, it had dominated the top of the search results. Before we took over, it was starting to fall down. We stepped in to help.

Try it: do a google search for “german coins.”

In an ever more competitive field, we’re doing our job.

“The results speak for themselves: In an ever more competitive field, we’re doing our job.”

As always, we approached this task as if it were our own. And we built a great website that works for Guth.

Digital Endurance Interfanatic Web Site Design & Branding

We told you last week that we love building websites. We do. But part of the fun is building a design that will stand the test of time. Being a part of great design, something elegant that outlasts trends – that’s the good stuff right there.

Enduring design and branding are tough. But it’s the kind of task we roll up our sleeves and dive into.

If you want great design or branding, we’re here for that.

Interfanatic and a Enduring

When you’ve been around as long as we have, you see a thing or two. You know what works and what doesn’t. You know how to see projects through to completion.

It is our pleasure to help you endure as we have.

People have to learn sometimes not only how much the heart, but how much the head, can bear.

Maria Mitchell

Mitchell knew, as many pre-suffrage women knew, the heart and the head must bear much. As a scientist (astronomer) in Victorian-era society, she had her work cut out for her, she required great endurance.

It’s more than the sharp pangs against you. It’s that sometimes they keep coming. And you just have to push through.

Mitchell pushed through, and her discovery became Miss Mitchell’s comet – I’m sure frying a number of experienced male colleagues.

Mitchell never married, and I’m sure that was a cause of great distraction, especially considering her fame. Look, I’m sure she made it work! But I have a feeling that for whatever the reason she didn’t marry in a time when it was only acceptable to do so, she had to bear great burden of head and heart – for at least a little while.

And yet, she endured. She became internationally famous, reputed, and trusted as a learned woman.

And that’s what we do, too. Not every project is perfect. (Certainly, some are!) But when they are not, we stick with it. We improve it. And over time, the success comes because we out-end the projects we take on.

Endurance: An Interfanatic Quality

Most of our clients are fantastic to work with. Some are a little on the difficult side. Look, we love them anyway, but it’s the same for all business.

And sometimes that difficulty translates into making a project difficult to manage.

Most of the time, our clients don’t have to hear that. We take care of it. We power through the tough parts and make sure the project is completed. Brilliantly.

We don’t like being stressed out, either.

The reason we stick it out? As we began with – our customers are awesome. We love doing a great job for them. We feel more successful when we help them be more successful.

There are a multitude of quotes about endurance. And they’re all true. We love to keep going where others give up. And we keep going, even after the project is completed, improving the project. Coming up with ways to improve performance. Making stuff happen for our customers – over the long haul.

Eddy’s Artistic Wrought Iron, Inc. – Here for the Long Haul

One of the many customers that come to mind when we reflect upon endurance is Eddy’s Artistic. Eddy crafts fences and gates using his bare hands. Has done so for over a decade.

It’s not an easy business. He has a lot of competition, he has difficult customers, and he has a very high standard to which he holds both himself and his products. Which have to endure salty climes and much abuse.

And the industry is competitive, so making a business last is difficult, with slim margins.

But Eddy knows what iron works in your situation, and how to produce a beautiful product that will last.

We did some work for Eddy’s Artistic some years ago – we created a basic website for them to show off their products. It was a fun, small project, and one we enjoyed. It’s always great to connect with a local business and help them succeed.

Eddy knows what iron works in your situation, and how to produce a beautiful product that will last.

We seek out local companies who have out-endured their websites. We find many of our customers worked with businesses that have gone by the wayside, or were done as a favor.

Making a business like ours, that has lasted 20 years, that’s not easy. We’re proud of our endurance.

Interfanatic Power Business Site Production

When you want a website that will endure, go with our Power Business site production. We build our business sites to last – and be secure.

A lot of work goes into making a robust, effective website for the Interwebz in 2020. It’s definitely not like it use to be. But, we’ve been doing this for 20 years. Some of our 20-year-old sites are still going strong!

Isn’t that what you want?

Get some endurance for your business. Have us make your business website.

Interfanatic and Endurance

Mitchell is a great hero. Forget being a reknowned female astronomer of the 1850s, we have so many women who were buried in the 1950s! We admire her accomplishments here.

When we look to the skies, to see Messier objects, planets and hopefully comets, we’re reminded of our minuscule place in this universe. Our time here is finite compared to the endurance of heavenly objects. But when we hear about or see comets, in particular, we think of Maria Mitchell, and her ability to take arms against the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. To endure.

One of our many visits to the Getty. Whatever you think of ol’ J. Paul, it is one heck of a place to enjoy views of Los Angeles. Past Santa Monica, you see Venice, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, and our home – Redondo Beach. In the distance, under creamsicle clouds and cotton candy blue evening sky, is Palos Verdes.

Humor: VDB Coins – Interfanatic Customer Spotlight

Like a warm summer rain, humor may suddenly cleanse and cool the earth, the air, and you.“

Langston Hughes

Humor makes everything better. As Hughes (one of my favorite poets) noted, humor can break the ice. No doubt, as he fought for Civil Rights, he had to break the tension more than once.

But humor is useful in business, too. In moderation, it makes business meetings easier to pass. It just makes dealings more fun.

And that’s where George Huber of VDB Coins uses humor to great effect.

George is a coin dealer. He works with only the nicest, most beautiful collectible coins. He doesn’t sell anything he wouldn’t want in his collection.

Because, as he puts it, “Life is too short to buy ugly coins.”

It’s memorable, it connects him to his customers, and it’s funny.

Coin collectors are picky, and sometimes very serious about the coins they buy. Light humor breathed into their consideration is a welcome respite from the seriousness of competition and strain of making just the right purchase.

And, George is a funny guy to talk to. Deadly serious about serious coins, but he just gets business.

Which is why we at Interfanatic were so pleased to design and build him a new website to replace his aging platform. George is great to work with. His customers seem to like his new site, too.

If you know nothing about the peak of collectible coins, but you find yourself piqued, take a peek into a worldwide traveling circus and multi-billion dollar industry:
https://vdbcoins.com

And if you know everything about collectible coins, check out VDB Coins. Talk to George Huber- he’ll teach you something. And you’re about guaranteed a chuckle, too.

Children’s talent to endure stems from their ignorance of alternatives.“

Maya Angelou

Ah, to be like a child. To not know better. To just do, and to try, and to not worry too much for consequences.

Growing up – experience – teaches us to be reticent, to be conservative, to go with care. Which is great! And terrible.

But when you don’t know better, you just go through it. You endure. You don’t know better.

Which is great! And terrible.

The trick, we learn, it learn when to endure and when to stop and move on.

LA is a tough place to endure anything. But if you think it’s tough running a business, try enduring in entertainment, or in sports. That’s exactly what Desi Bryant has done: endured.

Desi is a hustler of the best possible definition. He always has a few things going. But he’s able to single out and represent best his people through hard work and diligence.

Desi Bryant endures.

We do, too. Like Desi, we don’t give up. Interfanatic sticks with it until there are results. That’s why endurance is the virtue we highlight this week.
