Checkered Past Racing Announces 2010 Schedule Including Monaco, Monza

Chris Locke, proprietor of Checkered Past Racing and bone fide Lotus Nut, is looking to have a fantastic 2010.  Included in the schedule are trips to Monaco for the Historic Grand Prix, Monza to taste the World Championship-winning Lotus 79 ground effects at the Parabolica, and a couple of HMP starts with the new Rahal-run Historic racing group.

After successful runs in the Clive Chapman-run Lotus 32B (ex-Jim Clark Tasman 2.5 Liter F1 – pictured) including a  win at Algarve, Chris will be running that car again at other European venues, including Spa-Francorchamps.  He is also planning to run in the controversial SCRAMP-run new Monterey Historic and many of the standard HMSA and CSRG events that have been staples of his schedule for many years.  He will be running his Lotus 77 again in the Streets of Monte Carlo, which will be a highlight along with the Lotus 79 at Monza and Spa.

David McLaughlin once shared, “back when I was a dumb kid, I snuck into Monza – well, back in those days it was a lot easier to do these things, you see… and I found my way to the apex of the Parabolica.  I waved at the corner workers and they didn’t seem to care, so I stayed to revel in Jody Scheckter doing these phenomenal, perfect four-wheel drifts in the Shadow.  It was amazing to watch – and then here comes Andretti in the new Lotus, this aeroplane looking thing, and he goes sweeping around Scheckter on the outside! Wha!  I was amazed, and I turned to look down to the pits and I could see everyone scrambling, running around with their hands in the air, saying ‘Bloody ‘ell, what has Colin done this time?!'”

Indeed.  So Chris will get to experience Monza for the first time from inside that car.  Should be a fun year.

Have a look at Chris Locke’s Checkered Past Racing.  You may prefer to review his schedule.

Fairmont Butte Motorsports Park addresses Neighbors’ Concerns

The Fairmont Butte Motorsports Park, a race track pending development in Lancaster, California has been recommended for project approval by the County Planning Commission staff after carefully reviewing the plans and the draft environmental impact report.

The New Fairmont Butte Motorsports Park Web Site
The New Fairmont Butte Motorsports Park Web Site

The great majority of concerns appear unfounded.  There is a beautiful poppy preserve near the track where people enjoy seeing the flowers and meditating, and of course, the natural concern is that the noise of the race cars will disrupt people’s enjoyment of the preserve.  Fortunately, the bluff shields most of the noise – and even with the most powerful race cars at full song, the sound they make is barely audible if there is no breeze.  If there’s ANY kind of wind (which is typical there), it would be unlikely to hear the cars at all.

And of course, the track will handle small events only, so there will be no congestion.

Since this is the case, plans are moving to push the track project forward, to provide jobs to the area, and to create a great motorsports venue.

To learn more facts and news about the project, see a track map, and get an idea about the project, check out www.FairmontButteMotorsportsPark.com.

On the site, there are downloadable PDF’s explaining both sides of the argument, and explaining the reality of the situation.

Scuderia Toro Rosso gets “The Man That Wrote the Books”

Last week, Red Bull Formula One Junior Team Scuderia Toro Rossa ordered up a few sets of race car engineering books from www.CarrollSmith.com – WSmad’s oldest client.

The STR2 Formula One Car, from the Scuderia Toro Rosso official Web Site

After talking with Carroll Smith Consulting, Inc, we found out that it’s only slightly out of ordinary!  One of the winning Formula One teams finds value in Carroll Smith’s abundant knowledge, even a few years after the Great man’s passing.  It’s no wonder, right up until cancer took Carroll from us, he was negotiating with Scuderia Ferrari to teach them a thing or two about race car engineering.

Scuderia Toro Rosso has received their books, shipped all the way to Italy, and we’re glad we got to be a part of Holiday Joy halfway around the World.  Again.

Order up your own set of Carroll Smith’s books from www.CarrollSmith.com.

Hope4MentalHealth.org Goes Live, Promoting Hope Water

Although we don’t take credit for the site design or build, WSmad had a small part in bringing together a cool site with an even cooler purpose.

Hope4MentalHealth.org is a 501(c)3 based in Texas, focused around promoting mental health and well-being

in young people.  They had come to a point where they were having difficulty relaying their needs to their existing team of designers.  They asked Web Site Maintenance & Design to deliver, and we did so under budget.

With their Site development back on track and their South Carolina-based publicist, Kristen Wright and the Organizations Board happy, they launched their site yesterday.

Although we didn’t have anything to do with the implementation of the Flash intro or the site build, we’re proud of the part we played in assisting this organization to get on the Web.

Raise a glass of Hope Water and cheer on Hope4MentalHealth.org with us!  Best of luck to you, and we hope you accomplish all of your goals with your new site!

Cook’s Doors & Windows Attacks the Internet Market

Cook’s Doors & Windows, a family company serving Los Angeles since 1923, is assaulting the Internet marketplace after 86 years of working with home owners and contractors.

Like many companies re-evaluating their marketing dollars, Cook’s decided the Internet is more effective for lead generation than the tired old yellow pages, so they’ve redone their Web Site with the intent of capturing more marketshare in the 21st Century.

Cook's Doors & Windows' New Web Site
Cooks Doors and Windows

Their site is now a resource to their customers, primarily home owners building or remodeling and contractors, showcasing links to all of the companies that they carry in one easy place, contact information, and even articles about the saving energy and saving money while going through the process of changing doors, windows, door hardware, and moulding.

Have a look at Cook’s Doors & Windows’ new web site, or check it out as one of our proudest projects on our portfolio at Quietus.us.

Fowler & Moore Have Moved to Redondo

Fowler & Moore AT HOME’s new home is in Hollywood Riviera, the wonderful shopping street in the heart of South Redondo Beach.  They couldn’t have picked a better place!  They’re right next to another WSmad Official Marketing Partner, Tisha O’Dowd’s Abbracci Studio spa and boutique (look for their beautiful new Web Site to come live soon!), and just up the block from our friend and OMP Nick Peters.

If you didn’t go in to F&M’s store during the many years it was on the border of PV and Torrance, now you have a chance to really see how their place has come to life.  We here at WSmad encourage you to stop in and talk to the friendly folks there – have fun!  And then stop by Abbracci and see what else you can’t live without.  THAT would be an excellent day spent.

To Fowler & Moore and their loving staff, WELCOME to Redondo Beach from WSmad and all of our friends.  May your new location bring you great success!
